We all have our favourite shows. My mother and I often fight over the TV remote when it's time for our favourite TV shows. And there’s one only one things that can put us at peace. Well, there are two things; a power cut, and Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) is the only time when we put to rest our TV preference squabbles and stay glued to the TV together. Vehemently voicing our support for our favorite contestants. And both of us, convinced that we can better than any of the contestants sitting in the hot seat. But, we both know better than that. I’m pretty sure no one requires to be introduced to the show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
This iconic show, inspired by UK’s ‘Who want to be a millionaire?’ is the first of its kind in India. Contestants are selected by what’s called “Fastest finger first” and the selected contestant thus sits on what’s called the “Hot seat”. The host will then ask a series of questions, which he has go through without making a mistake. One mistake, and the contestant will be eliminated. The winners will get a cash prize of 2 Crore - 5 Crore.
The participant who have not managed to complete the show will also get a chance to win a cash prize. The participants can use “lifelines” as they’re called, to help themselves with the answers. The first season of Kaun Banega Crorepati was aired on 2000, with Amitabh Bacchan as its host. The show was an instant success, and was one of the top rated TV show in its time. The audience loved the format of the show, and most people could connect with the format of the show which awarded cash prize to people who could answer these questions.
The show has since seen 8 installments, each installment becoming more and more gripping. For instance, the audience can now win a cash prize answering questions from home. This has been phenomenal in capturing the attention of the audience. In 2011, Sushil Kumar has won 5 Crore rupees in this show becoming the winner of the highest prize amount. Other winners include Harshvardhan Navathe, Vijay Raul, and Arundhati. Amitabh Bacchan, as the show’s host, has become so iconic that when Shah Rukh Khan replaced him in a season, the show almost flopped. Ratings plummeted and the audience were requesting for Big B once again.
And here we have, most probably in the August of 2017, the 9th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Amitabh Bacchan has made no formal announcement as of yet, but he shared some photos of the filming. Reportedly, the registration questions are being prepared. So, we can expect further announcements soon. And when the announcement finally happens, I’m sure most of us would take to our calendars and mark up our schedules with “KBC” on all the days the show will be aired.
